SOLAR HYBRID SYSTEM
HYBRID SOLAR SYSTEM
Hybrid solar systems generate power in the same way as on grid solar system but use special hybrid inverters and batteries to store energy for later use. This ability to store energy enables most hybrid systems to also operate as a backup power supply during a blackout, similar to a UPS system.
Hybrid solar systems is the combination of grid-tied and off-grid solar systems. These systems can either be described as off-grid solar with utility backup power, or grid-tied solar with extra battery storage.
Hybrid systems provide power to offset the grid power whenever the sun is shining and will even send excess power to the grid for credit for later use.
A hybrid system is still more expensive than a grid-tied system as you need to purchase a battery bank, but it’s cheaper than an off-grid system because it doesn’t require an additional backup generator. For those who want peace of mind and don’t mind the extra expense, it’s an ideal solution that ensures you have backup power in the event the grid stops working.
ADVANTAGE OF HYBRID SYSTEM
-
Most hybrid inverters have backup power capability.
-
Reduces power consumption from the grid (reduced demand)
-
Enables advanced energy management (ie. peak shaving)
- Allows use of stored solar energy during peak evening times.
